Welcome to the Bookkeeping Template
"Download Guide"
This Download Guide was created for the Bookkeeping Template.
It provides the information you need to "download" copies of the Google Sheets Bookkeeping Template and a Google Script Project that can be connected to the Template as a Scripting Library for enhanced functionality.
That said it was also designed to serve as a good UNIVERSAL REFERNCE for making copies of any google sheet, google doc, or google slide file along with copies of unbound google script projects shared publicly by us or others for Scripting Library purposes.
Bookkeeping Template Specific...

Introduction
15:04
The Bookkeeping Template is just one of dozens of Accounting oriented templates found at the ZAP Accounting Software website, and that entire collection of tools and education is just a single box in a far larger educational model presented at the 220 Club website. We'll do a quick intro to all this to be sure everything is in proper context, while asking for your support of time and money, then get on with the details for this particular template.
Step 1 - Understanding the Unique Features of this "new type" of Digital Computing Solution...
11:16
It's not downloadable software in any traditional sense, but your data is independent from that of others like software and it does what software does for you.
It's designed to be cloud based, but your data is not stored and mined with others comparably situated like it is with Software as a Service (SaaS).
It is far more private than SaaS solutions and can be a lot more private than software if desired.
Step 2 - Understanding the Download/Install Process with a Flow Chart Before Performing the work...
8:32
Let's quickly go over the process you are going to follow for the download and installation of the software with a flow chart for easier understanding.
Step 3 - Understanding the Google Sheet File Architecture and overall Application Architecture when an external / Unbound Google Script Project is connected to a Google Sheet File
5:08
A fully functional ZAP Bookkeeping Template is made up of 1) a Google Sheet Template 2) an internal/bound Google Script Project and 3) an external/Unbound Google Script Project.
IMPORTAT NOTE: All the Core Bookkeeping functionality is contained in spreadsheet equations. Much can be done without authorizing the internal/bound google Script Project and without connecting and authorizing the external/unbound Google Script Project.
Step 4 - Get your personal Copies of the Bookkeeping Template and the Unbound Google Script Project (aka Scripting Library)!
8:00
From the Landing Page for the Bookkeeping template:
Click link for file
When it opens, confirm it opened with the correcdt user account (if applicable)
File > Make a Copy
Modify the name and confirm you are saving in the root of your Google Drive
Continue...
Wait for the folder to show up and then check your google drive.
Make a copy of the Unbound Google Script Project (aka scripting module)
Same as above, but it will not give you the option to rename the file or specify a saving location when doing this with a Google Script Project (for some reason).
In the process, get an introduction to the Technology Club website and learn about an unusual situation that arises when you have multiple users accounts active and try to view a shared google file. With this simple process, which takes less than 60 seconds once you know how to do it, say goodbye to the Intuit Clan once and for all!
Step 5a - Authorize the Bound Google Script Project only
6:53
In order to authorize the internal / Bound Google Script project only, the reference to the original Unbound Google Script project that persisted from prior to your download must be removed.
This is NOT something you will typically do in isolation like this. We are just showing how this would be done if needed.
That said, this is worth watching, as we re-download the files from scratch with little to no commentary and we'll do all this again in the next video too. If you watch them all, you'll get the repetition needed for better understanding.
Step 5b - Connect the Unbound Google Script Project to your Bookkeeping Template for use as a Scripting Library.
5:40
In this video we start without any software files in Jane's Google Drive again so you can see it all happen even faster. Once we get to the new part you'll see the following:
In the Unbound Google Script Project, set a file version and copy the script ID for making the connection with your template
From Google Drive double click on the DIY1 Google Script Project
File > Manage Versions , create v1
File > Script Properties , highlight scriptID and ctrl-c
In Bookkeeping File Template, open the Script Editor to view the Bound Google Script project and follow directions establish connection with the Unbound Google Script Project.
Tools > Script Editor to open the Bound Script
Resources > Libraries, and delete the prior connection (it won't work if you tried it)
On that screen, paste the script ID in at the bottom (Add a Library) and click "Add"
A new record shows up at the top.
Version - Select 1
Identifier - remove trailing initials (leave diy1 only)
Development Mode - turn to ON
Click Save at the bottom
Step 5c - Authorize the Unbound Google Script Project and the bound Google Script Project at the same time
5:29
In this video we start without any software files in Jane's Google Drive again so you can see it all happen even faster. Once we get to the new part you'll see the following:
Authorize both the Bound and Unbound Google Script Files at the same time.
In the File Template on Nav1, click "Refresh" button, It should work
In the File Template, click on "Refresh" for the window and the DIY1 menu should appear on the menu bar. (omitted from the video)

Step 5d - Watch the entire download, connection, authorization and file duplication process in a single video!!
10:45
This builds on all the prior videos.
In the first five minutes we download the files , connect them and authorize them.
In the next 5 minutes we make various copies to complete the download and file backup process for this unique solution in a healthy manner.
For many people this will become there single standalone video for long term reference for this process.
Step 6 - It's time to play with Demo Data or get on with the Configuration Guide!!
The DemoData Guide will walk you through your newly downloaded file with an eye on the Acupuncture Clinic Demo Data.
The Configuration Guide helps you remove the demo data from the file and configure it for your use as a working file and/or for creating a file ready for use with the Transaction Generator.
5:06
An intro to the Demo Data Guide, the Configuration Guide and a glimpse at the Guides you may move to beyond those. Also a reminder to review the Privacy Page on this site.
